Before you buy

  • Your drain body has a hub. The 2″ pipe sits in a socket under the drain. This gasket seals that joint. It isn’t for glue-on or threaded shower drains.
  • The pipe is 2″. About 2-3/8″ across the outside. It won’t seal a 1-1/2″ pipe.
  • Check the brand. The SD-200 fits the drain bodies listed in the FAQ. The SD-210 fits Mustee and Owens Corning one-piece molded bases. Not sure? Contact us before you buy.
  • You work from above. You drive the gasket down into the drain body from above with a hammer and caulking tool.

How to install

Install sequence: the gasket goes over the 2 inch pipe, is pushed into the drain body, then driven down until it bottoms out
  1. Cut the pipeCut the 2″ pipe to extend 1-1/4″ into the drain body, centered. The pipe ends up even with the top of the gasket (except Armstrong drain bodies).
  2. Lube and slide onLubricate the gasket with soap solution and stretch it over the pipe, letters facing up.
  3. Drive it downPush it into the joint, then use a hammer and caulking tool (or a 1/4″ x 3/4″ x 6″ piece of wood). Work around the gasket with a series of blows until it bottoms out.
  4. TestPlug the drain, fill the shower with water and check for leaks before you cover the connection.

If the gasket goes in by hand alone, it isn’t compressed and will leak. Drive it all the way down.

Common questions

Which drain bodies does the SD-200 fit?

Kohler, American Brass & Aluminum, Armstrong (requires cutting to a 3/4″ height; contact us for details), Casper Model 101-101P and 101 BR, Garvin Model 475, Intercon and Schaul Mfg. Brass Model 1524.

Which one do I need?

Use the SD-210 for a Mustee or Owens Corning one-piece molded shower base. Use the SD-200 for other 2″ drain bodies. Not sure? Measure the inside of the drain body hub and reach out.

Do I need glue or sealant?

No. Use only soap solution to help it slide on. The seal comes from driving the gasket down into the drain body.

It went in easily by hand. Is that OK?

No. A gasket that goes in by hand isn’t compressed and will leak. Drive it down with a hammer and caulking tool until it bottoms out.
