Not every repair needs a trench. Fernco has brought together three proven ways to fix manholes and pipe from the inside. Pick the right fix for the job.

Manhole repair
Strong-Seal® cementitious mortars, liners and grouts stop leaks, rebuild lost material and line manholes, culverts and structures from the inside.
- Plug leaks with fast-set cement
- Patch and rebuild walls
- Line manholes and culverts
- Fill voids

Active leak sealing
SealGuard® polyurethane grouts and sealants stop active leaks in manholes, vaults and tunnels, from a fast-reacting grout for high flow to a sealant for setting manhole sections.
- High-flow leaks
- Slow leaks, cracks and joints
- Setting manhole sections

Pipe repair
PipePatch No Dig point repair fixes damaged sections of pipe from the inside, 1-1/2″ to 72″, without digging up what’s above it.
- Cracks, holes and open joints
- Roots and infiltration
- Nothing to dig up or restore
What a leak costs while it waits
Big leaks get noticed and fixed. The slow ones can run for years, and the groundwater they let in gets treated like sewage.
Cost uses the EPA’s 2014 guidance of $2 to $5 per 1,000 gallons to collect and treat wastewater. Collection and treatment cost only; it doesn’t include damage, overflows or a larger repair later. Leak rates: lateral connections from Massachusetts DEP I/I guidelines (mostly rain-driven, so a full year is an upper estimate); manhole infiltration averages of 5 to 10 gpm, as reported in Trenchless Technology.
5 gpm of leaks, left for 1 year.
gallons of groundwater treated as sewage
Fixing leaks protects the environment
Fewer sewer overflows. Groundwater that leaks in uses up pipe and plant capacity. In heavy rain, that can push untreated sewage out of manholes and into streets and streams. The EPA links these overflows to beach closures and contaminated drinking water supplies.
Sewage stays in the pipe. The same cracks and open joints that let groundwater in can let sewage out into the soil around the pipe.
Less digging. A repair from the inside means no trench, no dirt hauled off, no new asphalt and fewer trucks on the job.
Decades of fixing pipe
Fernco was founded in Michigan in 1964. Since our first flexible coupling went to market in 1973, on a bid from Dallas, Texas, crews have counted on Fernco to put broken lines back together once the pipe is dug up.
Fernco Infrastructure adds proven ways to repair manholes and pipe in place, so crews can choose: dig and couple, or fix it from the inside.
Each line comes from a partner with years in the field. The Strong Company makes Strong-Seal, and SealGuard grouts come from SealGuard Inc., part of a working grouting contractor. We chose them because they share our commitment to infrastructure and our focus on quality.
Fernco is an American company, headquartered in Davison, Michigan.
Dig and couple when the line has to come out. Rehab in place when it doesn’t, with less to restore and fewer closures.
Strong-Seal® manhole rehab since 1989, SealGuard® grouts used in manholes, vaults and tunnels, and PipePatch with more than 750,000 repairs.
