Wax Free Toilet Seal
Wax-Free Toilet Seals
Set a toilet without wax. The flexible PVC seal sticks to the toilet horn, and its ribs seal inside the drain pipe.
No mess. No guess.
Seals in the pipe, not on the flange. It sticks to the toilet and stays gas-tight through minor movement. Flexible PVC, made in the USA for the long term.
Built-up floors. Seals on floors raised up to ¾″ above the flange. No risers or stacked wax rings.
Pulling the toilet to paint or remodel? Reinstall it with the same seal still attached.
Ideal for in-floor radiant heat systems.
Brings the seal and the toilet to center over the drain.
Holds a gas-tight seal even when minor movement occurs.
Impervious to mold and mildew.
For residential and commercial toilets, floor-mount and back-outlet.
Wax is one shot. This isn’t.
A wax ring seals on top of the flange. The Fernco seal sticks to the toilet and seals inside the drain pipe.
| Wax ring | Fernco Wax-Free Seal | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it seals | Compressed on top of the flange | Ribs seal against the inside of the drain pipe |
| Floor above the flange | Extra-thick ring, stacked rings or a flange riser | Up to ¾″, no riser needed |
| Pulling the toilet | New ring every time | Reinstall with the same seal attached |
| Radiant floor heat | Wax softens with heat | Ideal for in-floor radiant heat |
| Setting the toilet | One shot to get it right | Centers itself, and you feel the seal |
Which one do I need?
Each seal fits the inside diameter of the pipe or flange opening under the toilet.

3″ drain pipe
Seals to the 3″ inside diameter of 3″ plastic, copper or cast iron drain pipe.

4″ drain pipe
Seals to the 4″ inside diameter of 4″ plastic, copper or cast iron drain pipe, on floor-mount and back-outlet toilets. Also ideal for most smooth-wall 4″ closet wall carriers.

3½″ flange in 4″ drain pipe
Seals to the 3½″ inside diameter of plastic toilet flanges installed inside 4″ plastic drain pipe, sometimes called a combination, slab or 4x3 flange. Also use it with knock-out flanges or flanges with pipe stops.
How to measure
Pull the old ring and measure across the inside of the drain pipe, just below the flange. If the flange sits down inside the pipe, measure the inside of the flange instead.
| 3″ inside | FTS-3 |
| 4″ inside | FTS-4 |
| 3½″ inside a flange set down in 4″ pipe | FTS-4CF |
| A knock-out or pipe stop inside the flange | FTS-4CF |
Then check the floor. Each seal covers a finished floor up to ¾″ above the top of the flange.

Not sure what’s under your flange? Reach out.
Floor or wall
Use it on floor-mount toilets and back-outlet toilets. The FTS-4 is also ideal for most 4″ closet wall carriers.
Clean. Peel. Stick. Set.
- Clean the hornScrape off all the old wax. Remove all wax residue with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and let it dry completely.
- PeelPeel the protective liner off the adhesive.
- StickPress the seal firmly over the horn on the bottom of the toilet, so all of the adhesive touches the toilet.
- Set the toiletWet the ribs with soapy water. Line up with the drain and the flange bolts and lower the toilet. You should feel the ribs compress inside the pipe. Secure the toilet and check for leaks.
The adhesive needs a clean, dry surface. Any wax left on the horn keeps it from sticking.

Common questions
Which size do I need?
Measure the inside of the pipe or flange opening. FTS-3 for 3″ drain pipe. FTS-4 for 4″ drain pipe. FTS-4CF for a 3½″ plastic flange installed inside 4″ plastic pipe (a combination, slab or 4x3 flange), and for any knock-out flange or flange with a pipe stop.
My new floor sits above the flange. Will it still seal?
Yes, on floors raised up to ¾″ above the flange. The ribs seal inside the drain pipe, so you don’t need a flange riser or stacked wax rings.
Can I pull the toilet and reuse the seal?
Yes, on the same toilet. Pull it to paint or remodel, and reinstall it with the same seal still attached. If the seal comes loose from the horn, or you’re setting a different toilet, use a new seal.
Do I have to get all the old wax off?
Yes. Scrape off the old wax, wipe the horn with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. The adhesive won’t hold on wax residue.
Does it work with radiant floor heat?
Yes. It’s ideal for in-floor radiant heat systems.
Will it work with a wall-hung toilet?
The FTS-4 is ideal for most 4″ closet wall carriers used with back-outlet toilets.
